DRG 1887 Ventilated Box Car
When the D&RGW connected to the Central Pacific at Ogden, Utah in 1883, it opened the Colorado market to fruit grown in California. To move these commodities, several of their 24', Class 3 boxcars were converted to a ventilated configuration. These cars stayed in service until 1894 when sufficient numbers of standard reefers became available to handle this traffic.
