As a builder of miniature railroads, the majority of our efforts at RMI have been focused on recreating the fascinating world of narrow gauge railroading. Along the way, we have grown to recognize the need for miniature railroads that are optimized for comfortable, efficient, heavy-duty operation. Full scale human beings do not fall into neatly defined scale categories. Satisfying the often conflicting goals of prototypical appearance, room, comfort for the passenger, great stability and robust construction is a unique challenge. In answering that challenge, RMI now produces a line of special equipment designed to fulfill all these requirements. You may call it Estate, Exceptional, or even Extreme Scale -- we simply call it E-Scale. E-Scale locomotives and cars are large (24" seating width 8-12' long), massively built and ultra stable. They are specifically designed for maximum comfort and day-in, day-out commercial operation. They are offered in 7 1/4" / 7 1/2", 10 1/4" and, for ultimate stability, 12" gauge. |

The Columbia, Mogul, and Prairie locomotives are available in either live steam or gas-hydraulic versions (please see our steam locomotive section). A larger version of our SP Narrow Gauge X-1, 50 ton GE switcher is offered in both a gas-hydraulic and electric version. These 1/2 - 3/4 ton powerhouses are built from state of the art materials and components and are designed for long, trouble-free operation. They have carefully thought-out, easy to reach controls allowing the operator to concentrate on the rail ahead and the safety and comfort of passengers. |

RMI's large passenger gondolas are the rommiest, most comfortable and stable passenger carrying cars ever offered to the miniature railroad market. Available with or without swinging, locking doors and moveable, adjustable seat pans, they satisfy the need for both ease of entry and passenger security. These cars are steel framed, with custom hardwood planking and your choice of wood or steel decking. Unique features such as RMI's multi-height coupler pockets and custom lettering are standard. |

Styled after D&RGW prototypes, these handsome cars are favorites wherever they run. Children (and adventuresome adults) love the security of riding inside a real rail car while enjoying the view and fresh air afforded by the staggered sideboard construction. These cars are steel framed, with custom hardwood planking, marine plywood reinforcement and your choice of wood or steel decking. RMI's multi-height coupler pockets and custom lettering are standard. Stock cars are also popular for carrying auxiliary propane tanks for locomotives (see photo). |

No train is complete without a caboose, and RMI's open deck work caboose has proven to be a favorite. Its all steel construction is extremely durable and suitable for years of hard use. The handsome cabin is laser-etched and texture powder-coated to simulate wood planking while minimizing maintenance and upkeep. The cabin is available in a removable model allowing for equipment storage. (Some owners have used it to mount a generator for mobile power at remote areas of their railroad.) The open front deck is available in your choice of either wood or steel. It can be provided with a base for mounting a very comfortable conductor's seat or, interchangeably, our unique, swiveling crane! This crane is truly a one-of-a-kind accessory. It includes a riveted steel latticework boom, a main chain winch with full gearing and ratchet control, and a self-adjusting counterweight system. This truly one of the most intriguing pieces of rolling stock to be found on any railroad. |
